Walter and Me

Walter, in Minnesota, they have gone after sexual abusers as a CIVIL COMMITMENT matter. At Lino Lakes Facility (MN) it is considered a "treatment facility". They hold these persons (all male, mostly white) without the promise of release EVER. It is completely unconstitutional, but it just is. Some of them are trying to fight this legislation with very little progress. Some of these guys had their offenses as MINORS and they have extended it into adulthood with the same authority to not release. Indiana deals only with CRIMINAL cases against sexual offenders. We need this to continue. I need you, ASAP, to draft a letter about this to Senator Coates of Indiana. Speak of the illegitimacy of this type of law and that you are just beginning your education at IUPUI as a criminal attorney to be. Explain that your case was thrown out as unconstitutional, but the people that went after you then (your family and high school "friends") could go after you with no evidence at all. It would be "hersay" and it would be after the statute of limitations has run out. Explain that it could happen to him too at anytime if MN continues to skirt all laws around these "insanity" matters. Speak of your stengths and activities in high school and that you were always popular, never used chemicals, and tried a variety of sports, with much success, in high school. Let him know that this was never something that could happen to you, thus you took the case against you as a joke. This is NOT funny. I will tell you, Walter, that people like to talk, but I have never had any difficulties with boundaries, even in dating professors at university.
